Construction of Three New Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Units at the Opatovice Site
Following a successful public tender, the consortium of SLOVENSKÉ ENERGETICKÉ STROJÁRNE, a.s., and I&C Energo a.s. signed a contract with Elektrárny Opatovice, a.s. at the end of August 2025 for the construction of three new combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) units at the Opatovice site.
Immediately after signing the contract, preparation of the project documentation was launched. Trial operation of the new source, with a total installed electrical capacity of 3 × 71.6 MVA, is scheduled to start at the turn of 2027 and 2028.
Elektrárny Opatovice, a.s., ranks among the largest independent producers of heat and electricity in the Czech Republic. The company supplies thermal energy to more than 60,000 households, as well as numerous institutions and industrial enterprises in the cities of Hradec Králové, Pardubice, and Chrudim. The combined cycle gas turbine project represents a major milestone in the modernization of the region’s energy infrastructure, strengthens cooperation among key technological partners, and constitutes another important step in the ongoing decarbonization of the Czech energy sector.
